[ Series ] : Persona 2: Innocent Sin

[ History ] :
Lisa joined the group that day when her dad brought her to the shrine. She was also wearing a sentai mask. The four played together and called their group the Masked Circle (Masquerade), vowing to meet again. The rules were, when they gathered:
- they all wore their sentai masks and never revealed their faces or names.
- they played rock, paper, scissors to decide which sentai was the leader
- all followed what the leader said to do.
- they would always be together. Forever.
Eikichi always found himself on the losing end of the rock, paper, scissors. He wanted to draw with everyone, because it was the only thing he didn't lose or fail at doing. Lisa won often and played house, with Tatsuya as the husband, Jun as the older brother, and Eikichi as the baby.
An older girl in a sailor-collared dress soon joined them to play. They called her "Big Sis." Near the end of summer break, Big Sis told the other four she had to leave because her parents were moving. Eikichi, Jun, and Lisa decided to lock her inside the shrine overnight so she had to stay (it made sense to them as kids). Tatsuya objected, so he was locked inside too.
The next day, Jun, Eikichi, and Lisa returned to find the shrine had been burnt down overnight. Believing Tatsuya and Big Sis were now dead, Jun, Eikichi, and Lisa hid their masks in a nearby cave, swearing to never meet again. The entire ordeal soon became a dream to Eikichi.
In elementary school, Eikichi, still a chubby kid, had a huge crush on Miyabi Hanakouji, his best friend. She was the most popular and beautiful girl in school. To humiliate him, some of his classmates pulled down his pants in front of Hanakouji and told him she hated fat people. This crushed him, so he underwent a huge image transformation. He became vegan, lost all the weight, and began to dress like a Visual Kei rocker. He also began to beat up on people to counteract the idea he was weak. He also pantsed them to get revenge on what happened to him.
Years passed. Eikichi learned to summon his persona at some point. He used it to beat other people up, calling it his Shinigami, his death god. He was called the Death Boss because of it.
In high school, he became the leader of Kasugayama High, beating up bullies and protecting the weak. He also formed a band called the "Gas Chamber", taking on the stage name of Michel (pronounced "Michelle". It's a play on his last name). His friends couldn't play instruments, but he said his singing alone would get them signed and make them famous.
When the rumor that rival school Seven Sisters High's emblem was cursed and Kasugayama's was blessed arose, Hanakouji, now chubby herself and going by the nickname Kozy, visited Eikichi for an interview. Eikichi didn't recognize her at all and he claimed that the rumor didn't start at Kasugayama. He issued a challenge to Tatsuya, the most popular boy in Seven Sisters, that he was holding Kozy hostage.
Tatsuya and Lisa, a blond-haired blue-eyed classmate, arrived at the Sumaru Prison, an abandoned prison where Eikichi and his friends practiced music, to rescue Kozy. Eikichi met them and after some speaking and bantering, decide to call Master Joker (Joker-sama). Rumor had it that if one called his own number on his cell phone, that Master Joker would arrive and grant him his true dream. So Lisa and Eikichi's three bandmates called their own numbers. Sure enough, Master Joker appeared. He drained the three bandmates' ideal energy, turning them into shadowmen. He then pointed at Tatsuya and told him he blamed Tatsuya for everything and would have his revenge.
Lisa, Eikichi, and Tatsuya fought Master Joker. During the battle, Eikichi, Lisa, and Tatsuya all fainted, which brought them to the world between consciousness to meet Philemon. Philemon told the trio that they could summon Persona, sides of themselves, to fight demons.
When they awaken, Joker was gone. Eikichi vowed to take down the Joker to save his three bandmates. Eikichi followed Lisa and Tatsuya back to Seven Sisters to follow the Principal who was rumored to have a connection with Master Joker.
During their search, they met Mayuzumi Yukino and Amano Maya, the photographer and journalist from COOLEST, a popular magazine. Both were persona users, and they joined the search for the Principal. They soon find the principal at the top of the school in the clock tower. The Principal had made a pact with Master Joker to have all the students follow him without question and to have a full head of hair. Eikichi couldn't stand this principal and went to fight him. The others joined in and defeated the principal, who then jumped out of the clock tower through the broken clock face.
This took out their lead until they heard a rumor that Sugimoto, a student at Kasugayama, had become the new boss and had captured Hanakouji and was holding her hostage at Club Zodiac. Not listening to reason, Eikichi ran off by himself to find the secret lounge in the Club and beat up Sugimoto. Unfortunately the reverse happened. Sugimoto threatened to harm Kozy and so Eikichi took the beating so she would be safe. Sugimoto also revealed that Kozy was really his beloved Hanakouji. Eikichi was surprised and rather accepting. Kozy ran out, however, embarrassed that he looked so good and she'd let herself go.
After beating Sugimoto up with the others, Eikichi resigned as the self-proclaimed leader of the school. They then sought out Yasuo, the nerdy student council president who might be the root of the cursed emblem rumor. Yasuo lead the party on a wild goose chase, including getting the party stuck in the "impossible to escape" bomb shelter below the school, by luring them around with walkie-talkies. They eventually found Yasuo at the gym during the masquerade dance (this was the school festival, after all) with a skull in hand, absorbing people's energy (just like Master Joker had done).
After chasing him him to the roof, they beat up Yasuo too, who quickly conceded and told them about the skull and the Masked Circle. King Leo and Lady Scorpio showed up and killed Yasuo for blabbing about the Masked Circle. Eikichi vowed to take them down for killing Yasuo and turning nearly the entire school into shadowmen.
Another rumor surfaced, this one about a trio of girls from Sevens who formed a band called the Muses. Lisa was rumored to be the third member (as her two best friends had made the rumor), so to find out more about the Masked Circle, she rolled with it and joined them. Eikichi and the others followed her and met up with her when the Muses's manager turned out to be Prince Taurus. Prince Taurus was a bit of a dumbass, so King Leo killed him too, claiming Taurus was no longer needed. He told the party the stadium where they were was rigged to blow. They had to find a clue where King Leo would be next before the stadium blew up.
King Leo lead the party on a wild goose chase around the city, leaving clues to the next location where he would strike. Each clue was related to the city's layout with the constellation, the Pleiades being at the center. While the party worked to rescue everyone in the buildings, rumors spread around that Eikichi and the others were the terrorists setting fires and were somehow related to the Last Battalion.
The last clue lead them to the Air Museum where they worked to save all the school children and Ixquic, a cosplayer and member of the Masked Circle, who got stranded in the fire in the building. At the roof, Leo confronted the party and began blabbing about some prophecy which needed to be fulfilled and how he wanted to take revenge on the group. To escape the burning museum, Eikichi and the others, with the school children, boarded an air ship in the museum and escaped. The airship crash lands on the nearby beach. With the help of the school children, rumors spread that the five suspected terrorists were actually saving people from the explosions.
Individually, each member of the five arrived at the Detective Agency, where Ms. Ideal (a teacher at Sevens), spoke about the Oracle of Maia, the Last Battalion, and Xibalba. Lisa also confessed she knew of the origins of the Masked Circle. She began to remember their games as children. Eikichi realized that the Masked Circle games wasn't a dream and was actually reality as well. Which lead the five to Mt. Iwato, where the reflecting pools would reveal their true past.
At the entrance to Mt. Iwato, Eikichi and the others saw a ghost of someone they once knew. At first the sailor suited girl seemed vaguely familiar. She walked towards them, then disappeared, drawing the five further into the cave. Reflecting pools revealed the forgotten Masked Circle games. With every memory, Eikichi and Lisa began to cry more, remembering they had killed Big Sis.
Maya, who had been acting strange since meeting up at the Detective Agency, turned on the other four, claiming they should pay for their sins. That Maya turned out to be a shadow, when the real Maya intervened, revealing that she was indeed Big Sis and very much alive. Big Sis's death was just a rumor which was twisting reality, creating the ghost they had met at the cave's entrance, and was turning Jun into Master Joker.
After defeating Shadow Maya, the five leave the cave to rescue Jun, only to find that the Last Battalion was invading, thanks to the rumors that they existed.
Eikichi and the others headed up the mountain. Halfway up the mountain, the Leonid meteor shower began at a rather odd time of the year, fulfilling another prophecy leading up to the end of the world. At the summit at the building called the Caracol (a building built like a Mayan building), Eikichi and the others chased Master Joker/Jun inside to find that Hitler was there too. Master Joker placed all the skulls in their places causing Xibalba to rise up from the ground, rising the city into the air.
Hitler left to claim Xibalba, leaving Eikichi and the others to face Master Joker. Jun began to remember, finally shaking off Joker and joining the party. Jun's father took over the Joker's place, leaving to claim Xibalba before Hitler.
With Philemon's help, Yukino gave her persona power to Jun then parted with Anna (formerly Lady Scorpio) to protect the city. Eikichi and the others parted to retrieve the crystal skulls in the various temples which popped up around the city.
Each temple had a shadow self of a party member. In the Scorpio Temple, Eikichi confronted his shadow self who was surprisingly with Hanakouji. She had joined the masked circle to be thin and beautiful, because she was embarrassed, but Eikichi confessed that he loved her no matter how she looked.
After gathering and destroying all the crystal skulls (except the one Hitler had taken), Eikichi and the others approached the Naruruta Stone in Seven's courtyard, which teleported them to the Milky Way, the path to Xibalba. Within Xibalba, thoughts became reality as they chased down Jun's father and Hitler. Their thoughts created a Velvet Room and Trish's Spring (a healing spring) when Eikichi and Lisa wanted a break. Eikichi's father manifested when Eikichi's fears drove out of control. (After defeating his one fear, Eikichi swore to be strong once again). Jun's mother also manifested through Jun's fears and memories.
Ms. Ideal also appeared (though she was rumored to have been kidnapped). Her thoughts became reality as Bolontiku appeared and awoke, attacking and seemingly killing her, then they attacked Eikichi and the party. After defeating them, memories flooded back to Jun, showing more scenes from their childhood when they played Masked Circle. Jun attempted to remember his father, but in truth, his father had died in the Sevens clock tower and the father who had come to pick him up from their play date wasn't real.
At the heart of Xibalba, Eikichi and the others are transported to what seemed like outer space to fight and defeat Hitler. On defeat, Hitler reveals himself to be Nyarlathotep, aka the Crawling Chaos and Jun's 'dad'. The rumors coming true, Hitler, even Xibalba was a creation of Nyarlathotep as an experiment between him and Philemon to test the strength of humankind. Ms. Ideal appeared and stabbed Maya with the real Longinus Spear, causing her to bleed indefinitely, an effect of the spear caused by rumors.
Nyarlathotep told the group that he would fulfill their 'dream' of In-Lakech by destroying the world at the Grand Cross. And as the Grand Cross, the alignment of the constellations in a cross-shape, appeared, Nyarlathotep destroyed the world as they knew it, leaving the group caught between consciousness and unconsciousness.
[ Personality ] :
Eikichi also acts a bit like a typical Visual Kei artist, because looks are just as important in the VK world. He wears heavy makeup and jewelry, spikes his hear, and modifies his school uniform. He also spouts random Engrish, everything from "OKEI EBURIBADII", "MAI FURENZU", to "BEIBII". (It's translated as Spanish in the English PSP game.)
His dad would through a shitfit if he knew how Eikichi dressed, so every morning, Eikichi goes to a public bathroom, dyes his hair, puts on makeup and jewelry, and modifies his school uniform. Every evening, he does the reverse before going home. His father is a very traditional sushi chef who wants Eikichi to take after him and inherit the family business. Eikichi is actually terrified of his father, who claims to be a master of several forms of martial arts.
Eikichi is also the self-proclaimed leader of Kasugayama High, the boys school for delinquents (well was, until he "resigned"). He has a reputation of being a badass, protecting the weak and bullied, pantsing the bullies. He is nicknamed Death Boss (due to his persona) and Undie Boss (the unfortunate side-effect of his odd pantsing habit).
Despite his badass appearance, Eikichi is probably the nicest guy in the game. When Yasuo is burned alive by the Masked Circle, Eikichi vows to avenge him, even though he can't stand Yasuo. He constantly fights with Lisa, but he worries about her when she's separated from the party and when she's upset, he does his best to cheer her up and tells her he's there for her.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
- Strengths:
- Eikichi is a Devil Summoner (aka Persona user). He can summon Persona, reflections of his own self in the form of mythological creatures, gods, and beings. His primary Persona is Rhadamanthas (Hades in his ultimate form), but he is capable of using any compatible persona, but using a persona he isn't compatible with will wear him out.
- Eikichi can negotiate with the demons which pop up around the city. His negotiations with them include talking about himself, laying down the rules, and singing.
- Eikichi fights with a machine gun concealed in a guitar case. He is also capable of laying the smackdown with his fists.
- Eikichi is a very talented illustrator and singer.
- Weaknesses:
- Eikichi is a bit of a dumbass. He runs in places (without the rest of the party and into the unknown) without thinking of the consequences. This has caused quite a bit of trouble. He does this most when he's riled up about something.
- Eikichi is actually a very emotional person and sometimes they get the better of him. He gets very heated about people picking on the weak, causing him to lose his better judgment and so he runs into situations or drops important items.
- Eikichi also seems to have trouble with big words, mixing them up or just not getting them at all. For example, battalion became battle lion.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
The Maia:
Thousands of years ago, the Maia came to Earth from within the Pleiades. There were two factions: Oxlahuntiku (aka good aliens) and Bolontiku (aka bad aliens). The two factions helped man evolve from apes to humans, but in doing so, the evolution of the few wiped out the many who did not evolve. The Maia had a civil war between the two factions broke out on Earth, causing the Great Flood and wiping out the Oxlahuntiku. The Bolontiku live for some time longer, but lose power and go into a coma-like state, sleeping beneath Sumaru City in their ship called Xibalba.
Sumaru City:
This is the city where the game takes place, a fictional city south of Tokyo. The city is a perfect circle on the coast of Japan. In the center of this school is Seven Sisters High (i.e. the Pleiades). Each of the zodiac symbols are marked in the circle around the high school by buildings or zones. The city is said to be modeled after a Mayan city. Underneath the city lies the Maian ship Xibalba.
The Oracle of Maia:
Two teachers at Seven Sisters High worked with a student who channeled the Maia (i.e. he heard voices). After some time with working with Tatsuya Sudou (no relation to Tatsuya Suou, the main character), the teachers came in contact with the Oracle of Maia. The Oracle is a poem of events that tells how the world will come to an end as mankind knows it. The end would come by when the crystal skulls had collected enough Ideal energy (psychological energy all humans have which is especially strong with passion and dreams) to awaken the Bolontiku. Whoever awakens them will be granted the power to cause another evolution in humankind, to steal all the Ideal energy from humankind and turn them into "higher beings" where they were free from worry and dreams. These enlightened beings are called shadowmen and essentially feel nothing. It would be another evolution of the few, leaving the many to die.
Hitler and the Last Battalion:
Hitler was actually a Mayan black magic sorcerer. He incited the world war to force an evolution of mankind. He did not commit in 1944. Instead he fled with his Last Battalion to Antarctica to research and find the Xibalba. Hitler possessed the Lance of Longinus (also called the Spear of Destiny, a holy lance said to be coated in Jesus's blood) which caused him to become immortal. When Hitler learned of Xibalba's location under Sumaru city, he invaded Sumaru with his Battalion to collect the Ideal energy and revive the Bolontiku and force a new human evolution.
Yeah, this is a weird game.
The Grand Cross and the End of the World:
Now this part is actually real and was reflected in game. In August 1999, stars were a bit nuts. First there was the Leonid shower. then the planets were aligned in a cross-shape, if the center of the cross was the Pleiades. Just look at this. It's not perfect but it's enough to freak out those apocalyptic conspiracy theorists. And in the game, it is the prediction of the end of the world! That is the Oracle, after all. (This page has some really good info).
